Blessings to you from Europe! Ken is happily rubbing shoulders and exchanging ideas and visions with around 130 other SIL linguists, translators and leaders. We plan to head back to Central Asia on Saturday and I’m determined to try to grow flowers somehow. We feel this is “right”. This is just where God would have us now. Thank you so much for your encouragement and partnership with us! It is such a blessing to have our fuller support and know more are seriously praying for us. Finding the apartment so quickly, I KNOW was an answer to prayer. Getting all our luggage to Central Asia from Texas I KNOW was an answer to prayer. Getting Marat help for his infected knee during our time in Budapest, I KNOW was an answer to prayer. Thank you so much–keep praying!
There’s still time to submit your picture for our church directory. Please submit your picture this week. If the picture was taken by a professional, a signed release from the photographer must be received. If you have questions, please contact Charlotte Sanford at 330-735-3534.
George and Charlotte Sanford are seeking the assistance of some Friday night volunteers at the One Way Café. If you are interested in helping please speak with either of them. There is also a sign up sheet on the hall table for the provision of cookies.
A box for donations of old eye glasses is located on the table just outside the main sanctuary door. They will be donated to Cross-eyed Mission in Waynesburg. Any questions, call Brenda Abel at 330-627-7996.
Following Jesus… Sharing His Love. Our directional statement calls us to be ever growing in faith and in our relationship with the Lord, and here are just two opportunities for doing just that:
This Discipleship Bible Study is designed for “those who are hungering for the Word of God.” An orientation for this class will be held on Thursday, September 9 at 6:30 pm for any and all who think this sounds like the class for you! Course content and schedule will be shared so you can make a decision about your participation. Rev. Loomis will be conducting the orientation for this class, along with its Facilitator, Brenda Stine. Come check it out.
John for Everyone is a study of the Gospel of John. Beginning on September 22, the class will meet Wednesday evenings from 6:30–7:45 pm, facilitated by Scott Stine. Scott is considering the possibility of repeating the lessons on Thursday mornings from 6:30–7:45 am! Call the church office to get signed up!
Do you have excess produce you are willing to share with others? Please bring them to church and place them on the table in the lower back hall. If there is something on the table that you can use - please help yourself!
The joyful sounds of children singing is returning to First UMC! In our effort to continue to Follow Jesus and Share His Love, we will be starting a kids’ choir for 3 year olds through 3rd graders! Marci Folk will be leading this ministry, but she needs your help and input. A letter and tentative sign-up is being distributed this morning. Be sure to get one and get your children/grandchildren involved!
Do you have or know of a young person going to college this fall? Please turn their name and school address into the church so we can keep in touch with them through the school year.
The education team has purchased 2 new DVDs about internet safety for our church library. They are geared to help kids, ages 5 to 12, stay safe when using the internet. These videos were created by John Walsh and Julie Clark to provide a simple and engaging way for parents to discuss internet safety with their children. Even though the DVDs are a little "corny", they discuss serious issues. We hope you ‘ll check out these DVDs from our library.
Loaves and Fishes, our local food bank, currently serves around 300 families each month. All donations are very much appreciated. Any non-perishable food items may be placed in the chests outside the parlor door. Currently, there is a need for fruit and paper products. Thank you for your continued support.
The Missions Team of First UMC is collecting the special “Fifth Sunday Offering” today. Funds will be divided between the Steubenville Urban Mission and Loaves and Fishes Ministry here in Carrollton. Offering plates will be available at the exits as you leave the sanctuary today. Thank you for your faithfulness in supporting these ministries.
If you are interested in receiving prayer requests by email, please contact the church office with your email address.
